Computer Friendly Connectivity
"When
I upgraded my laptop, the new one doesn't have
a serial port connection, just USB ports. My
old PC, however, doesn't have USB. What do I
need to talk to your modules?"
This
is not an uncommon occurrence. So we put both
on the Command Module. Either a USB connection
or RS-232 serial port can be used from the PC
for downloading shows.
"With
my current system I have my PC with all my shows
in it connected to the firing panel. Sometimes
I'm on the road from one show to the next and
I need more than one show, and sometimes I actually
plan two different versions of the same show
for weather contingencies. If I don't need a
laptop, how do I transfer the next show into
the firing panel?"
Multiple shows can be stored in the controller
for selection at show time. Think of the Command
Module as the best of both worlds - the power
of your laptop with the size and convenience
of a Palmtop device. Up to 15 entire shows can
be stored in the Command Module - then you simply
select one when setting up the show. When connected
to the PC, you can add, delete, and organize
them to suit you needs.
"I
was looking at using wireless. My laptop has
to hook to this box that hooks to that box then
the audio control system hooks in - it's a nightmare
before I even get started. Can you make it simpler?"
The
Firelinx Command Module is a self-contained
intelligent system requiring no external laptop
for operation. Moreover, it requires no external
connections at all. If you want to use an
external timing track for synchronization,
an optional device we call the Sync Module
can be used. The audio track or sync signal
is attached to the Sync Module, and it transmits
the data via the wireless link to the Command
Module. This is an added benefit of Distributed
Processing -- each module has its own highly
accurate internal clock, and it only needs
to compare the internal time to the external
time to chase any drift of the music playback
device. Because of this internal clock, you
can also choose to have the show continue
even if the control track is lost - the system
will just continue to run on its internal
timer and ignore the lost timing track.
