"My
only request is that there's some way I can
watch my own show. I haven't seen one for years.
I can't afford to look away from the switch,
even for a second. The only way I can tell if
my carefully-planned effects are working is
to listen to the crowd, and when they go wild,
I know I've hit it -- but I can't see it!"
The
Firelinx Command Module is completely portable.
No connections to the Command Module are required
for operation. This is the concept that some
users have the most difficulty in grasping.
Imagine what your show would be like if you
weren't head down flipping switches in the center
of the fallout zone? The Command Module is small,
lightweight, and totally portable. You can move
around without losing connection with the modules.
You can back off to the edge of the fallout
zone and see your own show. Priceless.
"I
still fire a lot of shows manually, just because
it takes less preparation. All my big shows
are choreographed and shot with our automatic
system. I want to be able to do both, but what
I really want to be able to do is take my eyes
off the firing panel for once, and actually
see what's going on."
When firing an automatic sequence, synchronization
can be from user trigger, audio synchronization,
or external trigger. Pressing the trigger
or fire button creates the critical time point
T = 0. The user may set this time manually
by pressing the touch screen's FIRE button
or pulling the trigger on the hand pickle switch,
or it can be automatically synchronized to
an external signal. When firing manually,
the display shows the next cue to be fired,
and the hand pickle switch can be used like a mouse
to select or skip a given cue. For the most
part, however, the user needs only to pull
the trigger to fire the next cue in the sequence.
While you're still going to want to pay attention
to the screen, it's a much simpler experience
than flipping toggles and banks in the middle
of the show.
