Security
"The
thing that scares me the most about wireless
is the ability to tamper with it. What happens
if one of my competitors is standing off the
lot with another one of your systems, or they
throw a radio jammer over the fence? With a
wire, I'm not so worried."
Firelinx is equipped with "Secure Wireless"
anti-tamper encoding. A one-time encryption
key is exchanged between the firing module and
the Command Module, locking the two together
for the duration of the show. No other device,
even one of our own Command Modules, can talk
to a firing module that is already in an encryption
link. On the off chance that two systems were
being used in close proximity, there is a slight
chance that one of the modules would get linked
to the wrong system, but it would show up as
not connected on your panel. You need only turn
it off and turn it on again to get it to attach
to the correct Command Module. Our frequency
hopping spread spectrum radio technology was
originally developed in World War II to defeat
enemy jamming. It would take a very sophisticated
and powerful jamming device to overcome this
technology. But for the sake of argument, let's
assume someone went to all that trouble. As
you set up the show, the system would warn you
of extreme RF interference conditions, and you
can still use simple firing wire to connect
the modules as a backup.
